How could this have happened?
2 Similar Circumstances...2 Very Different Outcomes...

Dear Friend,

On a late winter night 33 years ago, two identical twins were born in some of the worst conditions imaginable.

Both the mother and father were killed while rushing to the hospital to give birth to the two boys.

Because there was no way to identify the parents - the boys were awarded custody of the state. They had been born with health problems and 2 months premature.

Although they barely survived - no one wanted to accept the responsibility of two weak, sickly babies so they ended up spending 9 ½ years in over 20 different foster homes and orphanages.

As the years rolled by both boys realized they had talent in track and field and a knack for computers. Both made average grades in school and neither was very sociable. They both ended up living in the same town as they became adults.

Even though they seemed very similar in nature and circumstance...there was a big difference - which wound up making a huge difference in their eventual outcomes as they lived their lives as men.

A few months ago - the past had caught up with the both of them and their destinies (as different as they were) were revealed.

One was a drug addicted ex-con who had just died of alcohol poisoning. The other was a prominent minister who spoke at his funeral.

What made such a difference in these two men?

The big turning point happened when they were 19. That's the year they found out what REALLY happened to their parents. They were devastated by the news. They now knew for sure there would be no happy reunion one day.

Their parents were dead!

The difference in how they turned out can be found in how they responded to this horrible information. One turned to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain while the other turned inside and looked outside for examples of encouragement - anything to help make sense and meaning of what had happened.

He began to study others who had persevered and turned circumstances of victim-filled lives into lives of extraordinary victories.

As he found those words of hope he began to feel a transformation inside and eventually went on to serve the church and helped transform the lives of many thousands desperate, unhappy people.

All because (unlike his dead brother) he never lost hope. So you see the difference is not what happens to us but how we respond to it and where we turn for help.

And that is the reason I am writing to you today.

To let you know about the most inspiring piece of literature to come off the presses this century. It was written and compiled by best-selling author Byrd Baggett and is called The Past Doesn't Have a Future But You Do. Words Are the Seeds of Greatness

This morning I woke up feeling tired, depressed and full of hate. I felt like the world was against me and I just wanted to go back to bed. And I didn't even know why.

You ever have that happen to you?

Well, instead of going back to bed, I made myself a cup of coffee and allowed myself 10 minutes to read Byrd's book.

At first I felt stupid and didn't even really feel like feeling better. I was ready to just stay mad and go out and take it out on anybody who got in my way. I read a couple of pages and nothing...

Then a miracle happened.

Right as I was reading a small message from cancer survivor and 5-Time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong...I instantly made a shift and the love just poured through me, around me and out of me.

That was almost 16 hours ago and I'm still feeling awesome and so many good things have happened for me today. But most importantly I got inspired to write you this letter urging you to get a copy of this book.

I guess it made me think to myself.

Hey! You have a choice. You can give in to this anger and feelings of doom and gloom or you can let it all go and be grateful right here and now.

Boy am I glad I did. This has been one of the greatest days of my life. And I thank Mr. Baggett for putting this book together. It was the best eleven dollars I've spent this year.

Maybe that story didn't grab you at this moment and just in case I haven't convinced you that you have to have this book for those rainy days when you need a friend.
